We recommend either a double-sided UHB window tape or U-428 urethane window adhesive primer or primerless.  We have had really good success with with double sided window tape over the adhesive and that is our main recommendation.  We sell both options on our website with each door that requires it as an option.

Double Sided Tape - 3M Genuine VHB

For optimal bonding performance, our double-sided tape reaches approximately 50% of its strength within 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and achieves full bond strength at 72 hours. To ensure a secure and lasting adhesion, Forestry Doors recommends using clamps during the application process. It is essential that both the frame and polycarbonate surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and free of any previous adhesive before applying the tape.

DOW BETASEAL™ U-428+HV

DOW BETASEAL™ U-428+HV is a high-performance, one-component urethane adhesive designed for automotive glass bonding. It offers a minimum drive-away time of approximately 4 hours at temperatures down to 40°F (4.4°C), as per FMVSS 212 crash test standards. The working time is about 8–10 minutes after application at 72°F (22°C) and 50% relative humidity. This adhesive is primerless to most fritted surfaces, simplifying the installation process.  Always consult the product's technical data sheet and ensure that conditions are suitable for proper curing.

Very light scratches can be filled with Novus wax, but due to the nature of silicone and polycarbonate, the coating cannot be re-worked.

We pride ourselves in keeping 98% of products in stock.  If an item isn't in stock, the lead time will be noted on that products page.  In stock items typically ship out the same business day if the order is placed by 3 p.m. Eastern time.  A few items ship within 1-2 business days.  If you need a specific lead time, please contact our office and we can advise you what lead times are.

No, when facing standard hazards or used appropriately our windows will not break or shatter. This means proper fastener tightening and following all chemical compatibility guidelines.

Our windows are built for extreme impact protection. We offer both monolithic and laminated polycarbonate options depending on the make and model of your machine. The monolithic version is a solid sheet of Lexan®—rated up to 260x stronger than glass. The laminated version offers even greater durability, designed for customers who want an added layer of protection. While these products are not officially rated as "bulletproof," they are trusted in demanding environments where strength and safety matter. If you’re unsure which thickness or style is right for your needs, we’re happy to help.

Performance can vary depending on the environment, type of equipment, and how the product is used and maintained. Our windshields are built with durability in mind and treated with a coating that is hardened on both sides of the polycarbonate after forming. This process helps enhance resistance to scratching and other wear from everyday use. While no material is completely scratch-proof, our coatings are engineered to provide long-lasting clarity and surface protection under normal operating conditions. With proper care and handling, you can expect your windshield to maintain its performance and visibility over time.

Yes, your wipers are completely safe to use on our windshields. Our windshields are designed to withstand demanding conditions and are treated with a silicone hard coating after they are formed, ensuring exceptional durability and performance.

Key Features of the Coating:

  • Scratch Resistance: The silicone hard coating provides superior scratch resistance, even against abrasive materials like steel wool, ensuring your windshield remains clear and functional over time.
  • Enhanced Durability: This post-formed coating process ensures the polycarbonate maintains its high impact resistance while gaining additional surface protection.

Recommended Wiper Maintenance:

To maximize the lifespan of your windshield and maintain optimal visibility, we recommend regularly inspecting and maintaining your wipers:

  1. Check for Debris: Before using your wipers, inspect the blades for any rocks, sticks, or debris that could scratch the windshield surface.
  2. Clean the Blades: Use a damp cloth or washer fluid to clean the wiper blades, removing dirt or grit that may have accumulated.

By keeping your wipers clean and free of debris, you’ll ensure safe, scratch-free operation and maintain the windshield’s superior optical clarity.

Here are some tested and approved cleaning agents:

✅ Soaps & Detergents:

  • Windex®, Top Job®, Joy®, Mr. Clean®, Fantastik®, Formula 409®, Sumalight D1, Brucodecid

✅ Organic Solvents (Follow with a water rinse):

  • Butyl Cellosolve, Kerosene, Hexel, F.O. 55, VM&P Naphtha, Neleco-Placer, Turco 5042

✅ Alcohols:

  • Methanol and Isopropyl Alcohol

Important: Always test cleaners in a small, inconspicuous area first. Lab compatibility does not guarantee performance in real-world use. Always rinse off solvents to remove residue.  Avoid abrasive cleaners, rough cloths, squeegees, or anything that could scratch the surface.

  • For paint, marker, or lipstick: Use Butyl Cellosolve or gently lift residue with tape or a lint roller.

  • For stickers or labels: Use kerosene or VM&P naphtha. If needed, apply heat (like a hair dryer) to soften adhesive before removal.

Polycarbonate Testing and Standards

At Forestry Doors, we are committed to offering high-quality polycarbonate products engineered for strength, durability, and performance. Below are the results of testing conducted on polycarbonate materials, as well as information on the standards we adhere to:

ASTM D3763: High-Speed Puncture Properties of Plastics

Testing was conducted to measure the high-speed puncture resistance of polycarbonate. Results at 23°C are as follows:

  • 118 mil (3mm): ~49 ft-lbs (67 Joules)
  • 236 mil (6mm): ~108 ft-lbs (147 Joules)

The 1/2" thickness surpasses the above results, demonstrating even greater puncture resistance. However, due to the limitations of testing equipment, reliable data could not be obtained for 1/2" samples.

ASTM D3935: Standard Specification for Polycarbonate (PC) Unfilled and Reinforced Material

Our polycarbonate meets the standards outlined in ASTM D3935. The specific material classification is 9034THO or 9034THOR, identified as PC0130B34720.
